AN incident involving provocation and violence occurred last night outside Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok after the third match of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Championship (AMEC) 2024 between Malaysia and Thailand.
The incident involved Malaysian fans who were attacked by a group of Thai supporters, known as “casuals” and hooligans.
The altercation began when a few Malaysian fans, leaving the stadium late, became targets of the Thai casual group.
The Thai hooligans had reportedly been engaging in provocative acts from the start, including singing chants containing insults, such as referring to Malaysians as “dogs.”

After the match ended, the group allegedly surrounded the stadium area and started assaulting Malaysian fans.
According to FLASH SUKAN’s close sources, three Malaysian fans sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The delayed response from the stadium’s security personnel and the police drew criticism, as it left some Malaysian fans stranded near the stadium without protection.
When the authorities eventually arrived, they managed to de-escalate the situation by arranging buses to transport the remaining Malaysian fans to the local police station for safety.
This is not the first time such provocations from Thai casuals and hooligans have occurred.

Reports suggest a similar incident took place last year; however, it only involved verbal provocations without physical assaults.
During a previous match, the same group was reported to have thrown beer bottles toward Malaysian supporters, though no physical altercations occurred. These acts of provocation now seem to have escalated into more serious violence.
The Thai casuals and hooligans, known for their extreme and aggressive support style, have reportedly been active for only a few years. They are often associated with acts of provocation against opposing fans, such as the events that unfolded last night.

This incident tarnishes the spirit of sportsmanship, which should remain at the heart of every match.
Malaysian fans are calling for stricter safety measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
They also urge the Thai authorities to take firm action against these hooligan groups to ensure the safety of all fans attending matches.
